Currently trying to complete a Bachelor of Multimedia Design, it is compulsory for me to complete the DECO1800 course. I believe that we create a web-based database in some way that connects data from the online TROVE resource (http://trove.nla.gov.au). Right now, we have been assigned to think of roughly 20 ideas that we can bring towards our next contact session this week... 20 ideas... that is a lot but that is also similar to the homework we got at the start of DECO1100. I am expecting most of the deliverables and the scheduling would be quite similar.
Speaking of expectations however, I am not so sure on what to expect specificaly. I am hoping to maybe learn more on the technical side (such as the coding - my JavaScript skills are not so good, I would be needing to self teach myself for this course, I believe) and get used to creatively generating a series of ideas that suit the brief. I think I would expect to have many episodes of stress through the course especially with the team-based assignments. Of course it is nice when everyone works together it really keeps my mentality in check however when you seem to get the odd egg now and then it can really be bothersome. I do expect to have some difficulty with the assignments and with my "not yet announced" team and I find that slightly scary - but I want to be able to practice my professionalism and learn new ways on how to evolve my team from a bunch of messy anti-social teenagers to proper adults that attend University for a reason.
I enjoy group work the most as it is good to socialise with others whilst working - it is how I get things done, it reduces stress and helps me begin to trust the others. It makes me want to do the work. But I don't want to settle for a "half-assed" idea that our team believes is good because it is easiest to do. I have done that a lot in the past and it isn't fun at all. Thinking from what Lorna said from this morning's lecture, I really want to try to challenge myself. Why not? I am only doing three courses this semester so I might as well run for those 7's. I have noticed that some don't seem to be trying as hard in University than others would expect - but I am hoping that the pace would change soon and that I would also be able to learn different coping strategies for these sorts of problems.
I have written a lot and right now I am feeling quite sorry for those who may need to read a series of these to mark our work... However I hope it was as entertaining at I could make it.
